What is actually in it

This gift is a single potted peace lily (Spathiphyllum), presented in a white polymer pot roughly 13.5 cm wide and 12 cm tall, wrapped in gift paper, with a soft plush donkey placed alongside. The overall arrangement stands 35 to 45 cm. Small natural variations in leaf shape or bloom count can occur depending on seasonal availability.

What it looks like on day four

As a potted plant rather than a cut arrangement, this gift keeps going well beyond the usual week or two of cut flowers, staying healthy for months with the care above, while the plush donkey keeps its place on a shelf indefinitely.

Peace lilies prefer indirect light rather than direct sun, so keep the pot somewhere bright but shaded. The soil should stay lightly moist at all times without becoming waterlogged, and the plant does best between 10°C and 28°C. With regular watering and the right light, this peace lily will stay healthy and glossy for a long time.

The five things that actually matter

1. Recut the stems. Two centimetres off at a 45° angle, under running water if you can. Air locks in the stem are the main cause of early droop.
2. Strip leaves below the waterline. Submerged foliage rots and turns the water bacterial within a day.
3. Change the water, do not just top it up. Every two days, with the sachet we include.
4. Keep them away from fruit. Ripening fruit releases ethylene, which ages cut flowers dramatically faster.
5. Cool and out of direct sun. A radiator or a sunny windowsill will halve the vase life of anything.

Substitution policy

Fresh flowers are an agricultural product. Occasionally the market does not have what we planned for, especially with seasonal stems like peonies. When that happens we do one of two things, and never anything else:

• Substitute a stem of equal or greater value in the same colour family, and email you a photograph before dispatch so you can approve it or cancel for a full refund.
• If no acceptable substitute exists, we call you. We will not quietly send something different and hope you do not notice.

Cancellations

Change or cancel free until 18:00 the day before delivery. After that the flowers are cut and conditioned specifically for your order, so cancellation is not possible — this is the perishable-goods exception under distance-selling rules, and it is stated again at checkout before you pay.
