Pink Lily Plant with Wheat in Green and Brown Wrap

A potted lily keeps giving long after a bouquet would have faded. Here a living pink lily rises from its pot, its buds opening one by one to fill the room with soft colour and a light scent. Golden ears of wheat, a traditional sign of abundance, add a rustic warmth, and lush green leaves give the whole design depth. What is actually in it

One potted pink lily plant with golden wheat ears and green foliage, in a polymer pot 12 cm tall and 13.5 cm wide, wrapped in two-tone green and brown paper with purple and dark green ribbons, about 40 to 45 cm tall. Some lily buds may arrive closed; they open over the following days.

What it looks like on day four

As a potted plant this lily keeps flowering for well over a week, with closed buds opening one after another. Once the flowers are over, the plant can stay as green foliage, and with care it can bloom again the next season.

This is a living lily plant in its pot. It likes plenty of bright but indirect light; direct sun can scorch the leaves, and turning the pot now and then keeps it growing evenly. Water when the top of the soil feels slightly dry and never leave the pot standing in water. A light mist on the leaves helps in heated rooms.

The five things that actually matter

1. Recut the stems. Two centimetres off at a 45° angle, under running water if you can. Air locks in the stem are the main cause of early droop.
2. Strip leaves below the waterline. Submerged foliage rots and turns the water bacterial within a day.
3. Change the water, do not just top it up. Every two days, with the sachet we include.
4. Keep them away from fruit. Ripening fruit releases ethylene, which ages cut flowers dramatically faster.
5. Cool and out of direct sun. A radiator or a sunny windowsill will halve the vase life of anything.

Substitution policy

Fresh flowers are an agricultural product. Occasionally the market does not have what we planned for, especially with seasonal stems like peonies. When that happens we do one of two things, and never anything else:

• Substitute a stem of equal or greater value in the same colour family, and email you a photograph before dispatch so you can approve it or cancel for a full refund.
• If no acceptable substitute exists, we call you. We will not quietly send something different and hope you do not notice.

Cancellations

Change or cancel free until 18:00 the day before delivery. After that the flowers are cut and conditioned specifically for your order, so cancellation is not possible — this is the perishable-goods exception under distance-selling rules, and it is stated again at checkout before you pay.
