Potted Pink Lily in Pink Wrap

Lilies carry a reputation for elegance that they mostly earn: large open flowers, a strong and unmistakable scent, and a habit of opening in stages so the plant improves for several days after it arrives. This one is pink, in a white polymer pot with a soft pink wrap and a pale pink ribbon, tuned warmer and gentler than the purple-wrapped version of the same plant. Forty to forty-five centimetres tall. Good for a birthday, an anniversary, or a gesture that wants to be affectionate without being a red-rose declaration. Worth remembering that the scent is strong, which is lovely in a hallway and a lot in a small bedroom.

What is actually in it

One potted pink lily in a white polymer pot twelve centimetres high and thirteen and a half wide, wrapped in pink paper with a pale pink ribbon. Overall height forty to forty-five centimetres. Stem count, exact wrap and pot finish can vary slightly with seasonal availability.

What it looks like on day four

This is a living plant rather than a cut arrangement, so it does not have a vase life. Kept in the right light and watered properly it stays with the recipient for months or years, and the decorative pot remains long after that. Leaf size and the exact number of open flowers vary from plant to plant.

Potted lilies want plenty of bright but indirect light; direct sun marks the leaves. Turn the pot every few days so it grows evenly. Water once the top of the soil has dried slightly, and use a pot that drains, because too much water rots the bulb. The buds open in sequence over several days, so the plant looks different, and often better, a few days after it arrives. Lily pollen stains fabric, so brush the anthers off if that matters where it is standing.

The five things that actually matter

1. Recut the stems. Two centimetres off at a 45° angle, under running water if you can. Air locks in the stem are the main cause of early droop.
2. Strip leaves below the waterline. Submerged foliage rots and turns the water bacterial within a day.
3. Change the water, do not just top it up. Every two days, with the sachet we include.
4. Keep them away from fruit. Ripening fruit releases ethylene, which ages cut flowers dramatically faster.
5. Cool and out of direct sun. A radiator or a sunny windowsill will halve the vase life of anything.

Substitution policy

Fresh flowers are an agricultural product. Occasionally the market does not have what we planned for, especially with seasonal stems like peonies. When that happens we do one of two things, and never anything else:

• Substitute a stem of equal or greater value in the same colour family, and email you a photograph before dispatch so you can approve it or cancel for a full refund.
• If no acceptable substitute exists, we call you. We will not quietly send something different and hope you do not notice.

Cancellations

Change or cancel free until 18:00 the day before delivery. After that the flowers are cut and conditioned specifically for your order, so cancellation is not possible — this is the perishable-goods exception under distance-selling rules, and it is stated again at checkout before you pay.
