What is actually in it

This arrangement combines red garden roses with a mini potted red kalanchoe (roughly 5.5 cm), red craspedia, mirkeladus, dried cinnamon and dried lemon slices, finished with raffia and a red ribbon in a black cylinder box roughly 14 cm tall and 17 cm wide made from sturdy cardboard. The overall arrangement stands 15 to 20 cm tall. Small dark marks on the outer petals of a few roses are a natural trait of this variety, not a flaw, and small natural variations can occur with seasonal availability.

What it looks like on day four

Freshly cut roses keep changing after they arrive, expect the outer petals to relax and the blooms to open a little wider over the first two to three days. With daily water changes and a fresh trim, the roses typically hold their colour and shape for about a week, while the potted kalanchoe stays in bloom for weeks with basic care.

We photograph every listing on the bench under daylight. The image you are looking at is the arrangement, not a mood board.

Unwrap the arrangement as soon as it arrives and remove any string. Trim two to three centimetres off the rose stems at an angle under running water, then strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Fill the box's inner container with room-temperature water, add the flower food sachet provided, and keep the roses away from direct sun, heating vents and draughts. Refresh the water every day, trimming the stems by half a centimetre each time. The kalanchoe needs no extra care while it sits in the box, once you're ready to keep it going, pot it in well-draining soil, water sparingly and give it bright, indirect light.

The five things that actually matter

1. Recut the stems. Two centimetres off at a 45° angle, under running water if you can. Air locks in the stem are the main cause of early droop.
2. Strip leaves below the waterline. Submerged foliage rots and turns the water bacterial within a day.
3. Change the water, do not just top it up. Every two days, with the sachet we include.
4. Keep them away from fruit. Ripening fruit releases ethylene, which ages cut flowers dramatically faster.
5. Cool and out of direct sun. A radiator or a sunny windowsill will halve the vase life of anything.

Substitution policy

Fresh flowers are an agricultural product. Occasionally the market does not have what we planned for, especially with seasonal stems like peonies. When that happens we do one of two things, and never anything else:

• Substitute a stem of equal or greater value in the same colour family, and email you a photograph before dispatch so you can approve it or cancel for a full refund.
• If no acceptable substitute exists, we call you. We will not quietly send something different and hope you do not notice.

Cancellations

Change or cancel free until 18:00 the day before delivery. After that the flowers are cut and conditioned specifically for your order, so cancellation is not possible — this is the perishable-goods exception under distance-selling rules, and it is stated again at checkout before you pay.
