White Peace Lily in a White Pot

The peace lily, with its glossy green leaves and pure white flowers, is one of the most forgiving houseplants there is, and its name says a lot about why people give it. Planted in a clean white pot, it fits a living room, a bedside table or an office desk, and it keeps going long after cut flowers would have faded. That makes it a thoughtful get-well gift, a lasting message of sympathy to a family, a thank-you to a host or colleague, or a welcome touch of green for a new office. What is actually in it

1 white peace lily (Spathiphyllum) in a white polymer pot 12 cm high and 13.5 cm wide. Overall height 35 to 45 cm. The number of open flowers can vary.

What it looks like on day four

A peace lily is a long-lived houseplant. Each white flower lasts several weeks, and with regular watering and good light the plant flowers again and stays green for years.

We photograph every listing on the bench under daylight. The image you are looking at is the arrangement, not a mood board.

Place the peace lily in bright, indirect light; it also copes with shadier corners but flowers best with good light. Water when the top of the soil feels dry, roughly once a week, and empty any water left in the saucer. If the leaves droop, it is asking for water and usually perks up within hours. Wipe the leaves now and then to keep them glossy. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs, as the leaves are irritating if chewed.

The five things that actually matter

1. Recut the stems. Two centimetres off at a 45° angle, under running water if you can. Air locks in the stem are the main cause of early droop.
2. Strip leaves below the waterline. Submerged foliage rots and turns the water bacterial within a day.
3. Change the water, do not just top it up. Every two days, with the sachet we include.
4. Keep them away from fruit. Ripening fruit releases ethylene, which ages cut flowers dramatically faster.
5. Cool and out of direct sun. A radiator or a sunny windowsill will halve the vase life of anything.

Substitution policy

Fresh flowers are an agricultural product. Occasionally the market does not have what we planned for, especially with seasonal stems like peonies. When that happens we do one of two things, and never anything else:

• Message you on WhatsApp before dispatch with the alternative we propose, so you can approve it or cancel for a full refund.
• If there is no alternative you are happy with, you can cancel for a full refund. We will not quietly send something different and hope you do not notice.

Cancellations

Change or cancel free until 18:00 the day before delivery. After that the flowers are cut and conditioned specifically for your order, so cancellation is not possible. This is the perishable-goods exception under distance-selling rules, and it is stated again at checkout before you pay.
