Potted Schefflera in Blush and Cream Wrap

A green plant is the quietest good gift: nothing to arrange, nothing to throw away in a week. This schefflera has the broad, glossy, hand-shaped leaves the plant is known for, wrapped in soft blush and cream paper and finished with a satin ribbon. Around it sit small round salmon craspedia heads, a few stems of wheat and slices of dried lemon, which give the whole thing a warm, rustic edge rather than a florist gloss. It works as a housewarming present, as a thank-you, or as something to bring to a home you are visiting. Roughly twenty-five to thirty-five centimetres tall in a twelve-centimetre pot.

What is actually in it

One schefflera plant in a twelve-centimetre polymer pot, thirteen and a half centimetres wide, wrapped in blush and cream paper with a satin ribbon. Finished with salmon craspedia, wheat stems, dried lemon slices and broad green aspidistra leaves. Stem count, exact wrap and pot finish can vary slightly with seasonal availability.

What it looks like on day four

This is a living plant rather than a cut arrangement, so it does not have a vase life. Kept in the right light and watered properly it stays with the recipient for months or years, and the decorative pot remains long after that. Leaf size and the exact number of open flowers vary from plant to plant.

Give the plant bright, indirect light and keep it away from direct sun and from draughts. Water when the top of the soil feels dry, keeping it lightly moist rather than wet, since standing water is the quickest way to rot the roots. It prefers a steady spot and a room that stays above twenty degrees, and it does not like being moved around. Dust the leaves occasionally and it will keep going for years.

The five things that actually matter

1. Recut the stems. Two centimetres off at a 45° angle, under running water if you can. Air locks in the stem are the main cause of early droop.
2. Strip leaves below the waterline. Submerged foliage rots and turns the water bacterial within a day.
3. Change the water, do not just top it up. Every two days, with the sachet we include.
4. Keep them away from fruit. Ripening fruit releases ethylene, which ages cut flowers dramatically faster.
5. Cool and out of direct sun. A radiator or a sunny windowsill will halve the vase life of anything.

Substitution policy

Fresh flowers are an agricultural product. Occasionally the market does not have what we planned for, especially with seasonal stems like peonies. When that happens we do one of two things, and never anything else:

• Substitute a stem of equal or greater value in the same colour family, and email you a photograph before dispatch so you can approve it or cancel for a full refund.
• If no acceptable substitute exists, we call you. We will not quietly send something different and hope you do not notice.

Cancellations

Change or cancel free until 18:00 the day before delivery. After that the flowers are cut and conditioned specifically for your order, so cancellation is not possible — this is the perishable-goods exception under distance-selling rules, and it is stated again at checkout before you pay.
